Wolf Creek Inn, located in Wolf Creek, Oregon is the oldest, continuously operating hotel in the state. Built in 1883 by a man named Henry Smith, the destination was a popular one for travelers along the Applegate Trail, and the building has housed its fair share of famous folks from back in the day, including movie star Clark Gable and American novelist Jack London.
Not only is the building a charming inn succeeding in taking you back to a simpler time in the past, but it has a reputation for being extremely haunted by numerous spirits.

Jack London is said to have spent considerable time at the inn, even finishing his famous novel “Valley of the Moon” while staying there. The inn has a whole little museum part of the building, where they have preserved the room Jack London used to stay in to be as close as possible to what it would have been like back in the day. People say they have seen Jack London’s apparition around the 2nd floor of the inn and around his favorite room.

Clark Gable of course is another said to allegedly haunt the inn, and unlike Jack London, his favorite room is available to spend the night in. This is room 9, or the “Clark Gable Room”. Several EVPs have come through making investigators believe Clark Gable’s spirit may be in the room, mentioning his late wife’s name “Carol”, and saying “I miss her” being captured more than once.
There is also a little girl who roams the whole inn, and she seems to really like candy and has a trickster-like personality. People can hear her running around in the hallways and giggling.

Room 8 is supposed to be the most haunted in the entire building, housing a spirit who likes to pin guests down on the bed and a shadow figure being seen often. Doing some additional research, I was able to find another urban legend tied to Room 8, where a little girl was murdered by her father in the room.
Perhaps the most frightening entity of all happens to be the legend of a vampire-like creature that roams the woods outside the property. This creature is pale skinned and often seen with blood pooling out of its mouth, which is why people refer to it as a “vampire”, but honestly no one really knows what this creature truly is.

And with all of the hauntings and the high level of activity said to be at this location, of course I had to go check it out myself. My friends and I stayed two nights in rooms 8 and 9, the most haunted on the property.
